Diego joined us a few hours after Darby (Darren). The five of us made a happy group for one night, very amiable - how I wanted to take the lot for the rest of the trip.

Hue left yesterday evening and the grey rains started after her departure. She returns via London & training in New Zealand to the NZ Antarctic base for a 14 month stint.

Josh has decided to stay on till August 5th, when he must catch a flight from Reykjavik to Boston for the next stage of his voyage around the world, a sail up to Nova Scotia. We'll drop him off on the way to Ireland.

This morning Darby served up bacon & eggs - a workman's breakfast, and we tidied up & sorted out Teddy. She is watered; after this cafe we pick up diesel on the way out.

The approaches to Scoresbysund remains congested with 100% ice. But Kangerlusuaq Fjord is virtually clear. It lies NW 250 NM distant. The winds to be NE for the next few days - most favourable. We go there.

No one there - not a house or soul - a total wilderness of mountains and glaciers. There will be no Internet access, though Darby's sat-linked device (Garmin Inreach, which includes email and tracker functions) allows me to send emails up to 160 characters. I may use it, but if not, the next posting will be when we drop off Josh at W or SW Iceland about the 4th August. I'll post separately a link to Darby's tracking device - it allows one to see where we are.
